Joana Piperi is a Neurocognitive Psychologist currently living and working in Berlin. She has studied at Bologna University and Freie Univerität Berlin on cluster of “Language of emotion”. The main research interests include music and emotion, music and personality, music therapy, and similarities and differences of music and language processing.

Her recent work and research are focused on brain correlates of emotion, laughing, consciousness, and on therapeutic effects of laughter on chronic diseases such as depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

As she believes that laughter is the lubricant for creativity and helps cope with stressors or problems, she is using it as an instrument to improve and increase our sense of "belonging and social cohesion”.
