Finnish Artist Emilia Tikka chosen as Artist in Residence at Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine
We are excited to announce that, out of 40 submissions from 12 countries, Finnish artist Emilia Tikka has been chosen as Artist in Residence. The first European artist residency on CRISPR-Cas9 is a joint project by STATE and Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine inviting one artist to join the research team in the laboratory to explore the societal and philosophical dimensions of this powerful tool for genetic engineering.
The DORIAN-GRAY-KIT – Trajectories of Rejuvenation between Self-Experiments and CRISPR-cas9
The proposed project by Emilia Tikka is a poetic scenario about a possible future of genome editing technologies and the human obsession of youth. Concerned with human desires and dreams driving current biotechnology from institutional laboratories to citizen science tinkerers, Emilia Tikka will draw on her experiences in the laboratory to further develop her artwork. In July and August, the artist is based at the research center to work closely with the CRISPR research team. The exceptional exchange between art and science will result in an exhibition at the Opening of STATE Studio Berlin in late October.
