the developing pupal wings of two but- terfly species, the Painted lady (Vanessa cardui) and the Buckeye (Junonia coenia). They were placed in a special media
that allows the wings to survive. Over the course of 70 hours (Painted lady) and
27 hours (Buckeye) the color patterns appear in the wings.
