How can artificial intelligence (AI) accelerate our progress towards sustainable development and the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals?

This question will be addressed for the fourth time by representatives of the United Nations and the world of AI at the AI for Good Global Summit, the leading United Nations platform for dialogue on sustainable AI development, from 4-8 May 2020.

The AI for Good Global Summit 2019 for the first time brought together artists from all over the world using AI to push the limits of human creativity. Their contribution was one of the highlights of the Summit steering the conversation away from dystopian narratives towards a more human-centric dialogue. Now, for the first time, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), XPRIZE Foundation and STATE are launching an international open call for art projects to be presented throughout the AI for Good Global Summit 2020 program, stages and exhibit areas.

AI for Good: Art Program

While AI technologies offer artists and creatives a range of exciting new tools and opportunities, it is in the creation of contexts and the negotiation of what matters to us where the true meaning of the work of artists starts to emerge. As the development of AI raises an array of important questions and challenges, we need skilled translators and facilitators to allow us to reflect and inspire these changes. Hence, a comprehensive discourse must include as many voices as possible in order to identify positive visions of how AI may be used for our maximum benefit.
The aim of the AI for Good exhibition and art program is to expand the otherwise highly technological debate on the possibilities and limits of AI to include application-oriented cultural and social perspectives.

Open Call

This call is addressing artists working with or around the topic of AI. Applicants may stem from disciplines such as interactive art, performance, computer animation, film, and visual effects, digital communities and social media, hybrid art, data art, and sculptural art.
