Landscape Memories – Candle Workshop by Klara Ravat
Landscape Memories – Candle Workshop with Klara Ravat (Smell lab Berlin)
#CURIOUSMINDS
Imagine, the fragranced garden rose of your parent’s house, the smell after the rain in a summer forest, a bouquet of flowers on a Sunday morning, the smell of hay in the sunny countryside... Memories are most emotional when triggered by scent. Do you have a relaxing memory of nature that you would like to bring into your home?
The secret behind how smell triggers memories and emotions lay on the anatomy of the brain. When an odorant enters our nostril, the information is processed first by the olfactory bulb which has a direct connection to the amygdala and hippocampus: the areas in the brain implicated in emotion and memory.
Come and join Klara at STATE Studio. During this workshop we will create a beautifully scented candle that will bring you back to those relaxed good memories out in nature. By exploring, firstly, a variety of different scents we will learn how certain scent compositions work and play with their properties. Once we have the fragrance ready, we will learn how to prepare the blend with the wax and get our candles ready!
Smell Lab is a non-commercial Project that has been established as a platform for olfactory art and inter-disciplinary practices that relate to scent as a medium for expression and communication, in Berlin and in an international context.
Smell Lab’s main mission is to co-produce, host, educate, innovate and support artistic practices that involve the sense of smell and olfaction.
