The origin of Lichtvolumen was the idea of finding a new “aggregate state” of light. The diffraction and refraction on an opti- cally coated surface directs the light and thus the waves that create a real image through the interaction with the viewer.
Lichtvolumen conceives light as a body floating freely in space. The light installation adds a new haptic and physical “dimension” to light. Otherwise often a medium, light itself becomes an object of artistic examination, its transience a material.
The exhibition Lichtfelder is created in cooperation with the Communication Department of the Fraunhofer Headquarters and is supported by the Fraunhofer Network »Wissenschaft, Kunst und Design« and is presented on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft.
