Helen is the project manager of the Center for the History of Emotions in Queen Mary University of London. She completed her BA, Masters and doctoral research in English Literature at Newcastle University.

Her PhD investigated the relationship between national identity and the 'man of feeling' in Romantic Literature. Both during and after her PhD, she worked in a range of academic, administrative and engagement roles before coming to QMUL as a project manager on the project "Living with Feeling".

She has long-standing research interests in constructions of gender, especially masculinities, and concepts of nation and national identities. Her current research project investigates literary representations of graves and burial practices during the Napoleonic Wars.
