Curious Minds – ArtScience Monthly #19

Tuesday, October 19 2021, 7 pm CEST

About this Event

What happens when two different minds interconnect and get to think about how they think? The ArtScience Monthly is about putting our curiosity into action and learning from one another via collective exchanges.

On October 19th, we'll look at how we want to shape and engage with the cities we live in - exploring the theme of urban mobility in relation to technology, sustainability and communities.

We'll have the pleasure of being joined by artist Russell Perkins and sustainability focused project-creator Perttu Ratilainen. Russell recently collaborated with forensic scientists, professional poker players, a biochemical reagent manufacturer and singers for his project "The Future Tense", which considers how risk and precarity register on individual bodies. Perttu co-founded the Radbahn project - an initiative in Berlin aiming to develop a nine kilometre long covered bike path -, and the think tank paper planes e.V. which supports sustainable urban planning projects.

Russell and Perttu both contribute in their own ways to projects merging science, technology and the arts via the European Commission's S+T+ARTS initiative: Russell was laureate of a residency by the Fondation Fiminco in partnership with the Sony CSL Paris, and Perttu is currently part of STATE Studio's expert group for a residency on the topic of mobility.

About the ArtScience Monthly

Every third Tuesday of the month, we invite you to join in these open and informal evenings, where we create playful situations for interactions with other participants. We share thoughts, practice open-mindedness and create new bonds, while imagining alternative futures by crossing perspectives beyond disciplinary boundaries. Besides, each session starts with impulse talks by an artist and a scientist; just enough to get inspired and start off an exchange!

These events are organized by STATE Studio in the framework of Curious Minds: a community program that aims to explore new forms of collective thinking, learning and acting at the intersection of art and science. STATE Studio is a public gallery, showroom and event space in central Berlin. It’s a place for creative synergies between science, art, and innovation to discover and explore the breakthrough developments that shape our future.
