State of Artificial Intelligence

Oct 3–29, 2017
STATE of AI Pop-Up Studio, 410 S Spring Str, 90013 Los Angeles

Made possible by invitation and support of Sister Cities of Los Angeles and Berlin Senate, STATE Festival will open up its first temporary presence in Los Angeles during the month of October 2017.

The prototype STATE Studio, a streetfront gallery space in the cultural epicenter of downtown Los Angeles, provided the canvas for 4 weeks of program at the intersection of art, science and technology: exhibitions, workshops, performances, panel discussions, films and open labs.

Building on STATE Festivals 2016 program “The Sentimental Machine”, and as part of STATE’s thematic series “STATE of AI”, the focus of this one month of program was on the topic artificial intelligence and its application in the creative and artistic realm: How can algorithms enhance us and our creative process in meaningful ways? What aspects of creativity can and do machines cover autonomously already today? What new types of interaction between man and machine are emerging from the rapidly accelerating pace of machine intelligence?

With over 3000 visitors and a multitude of different events and program, STATE's Pop-Up Studio was a great success, laying a solid foundation for future activities of STATE Festival in Los Angeles. Thank you very much to all our partners and visitors for their support. We are looking forward to being back in this wonderful city.
