SoftMachine / A Natural History of Networks

“Soft/Machine” is an electrochemical instrument to perform and explore the aesthetic space of raw material processes and imaginary narrations. A liquid metal (galinstan) is deformed and manipulated by a series of electrodes inside a petri dish. Through electrical pulses and signals, manifold structures and patterns form; a material narrative of fluctuation, shape, chaos, formation, reconstruction, reversibility, and temporality. Everything flows, turbulence appears, structures emerge, temporarily retain a form, folds, collapses, and builds up again. Furthermore, “A Natural History of Network” acts as a model for a world in the making with elements of growth, bifurcation, emergency, flow, and decay.
