ArtScience Monthly

What happens when two different minds interconnect and get to think about how they think? The ArtScience Monthly is an event series that ran from March 2020 to October 2021. Taking place every third Tuesday of the month, it was about putting our curiosity into action and learning from one another via collective exchanges.

In these open and informal evenings, we created playful situations for interactions with other participants. We shared thoughts, practiced open-mindedness and created new bonds while imagining alternative futures by crossing perspectives beyond disciplinary boundaries. Each session started with impulse talks by an artist and a scientist, followed by group discussions based on thought experiments.

These events were organized by STATE Studio in the framework of Curious Minds: a community program that aims to explore new forms of collective thinking, learning and acting at the intersection of art and science.

Community-curated ArtScience Monthlies

As from May 2021, after organising the events ourselves for a year, we invited community members to co-produce an edition of ArtScience Monthly together with us. As a duo of guest curators, they chose the themes of the events, invited the speakers and moderated the sessions with their own style. Each time, they brought a new energy to the gatherings.

This opportunity was open for all of those who wanted to curate a meaningful community experience around themes that matter to you and who want to support a knowledge sharing culture beyond institutional frameworks.

Our Themes and Speakers

Each edition of our ArtScience Monthlies has had a very distinctive character, among others thanks to the impulses of our speakers on their current artistic and scientific explorations.

Let's mention some of the topics and questions we were introduced to: the geometry of biomaterials, the neuroscience of empathy, jazz music, mythical approaches to the creation of the world, peer-to-peer renewable energy exchange, quantum physics, self-care in the service of ecology, the use of mushroom mycelium in fablabs, urban biodiversity, animistic philosophy, the physics of light, visual rhetoric, the perception and naming of time, the permeability of membranes, the healing of trauma through dance, the aesthetics of physical phenomena,...
